Description

The Dome of the Rock is located at the center of Jerusalem known as the Temple Mount. This was the original site of the Synagogue and Solomon's temple. Destroyed and rebuilt over the centuries, it became the second holiest site of the Islamic faith. Jews are not allowed to enter the premises of the Dome of the Rock, so they are relegated to only being able to visit the Western Wall, which is called the Wailing Wall because many Jews go there and grieve that they do not have their temple to go to. This site carries great importance to Jews, Christians and Muslims which would explain why it has been a subject of great contention over the years.
