Description
Built by the Teutonic Knights in the 13th century, St. Elizabeths Church in Marburg, Germany has been a source of pilgrimage for centuries. St. Elizabeth moved to Marburg after she lost her husband to the Crusades. After moving to Marburg, she showed compassion for the poor unlike many other nobles at the time. St. Elizabeth built a hospital for the sick and gave money to the poor to help all of the people. The other nobles at the time tried to intervene and slow her giving. Despite their efforts, St. Elizabeth continued to help out people no matter their class.
St. Elizabeth ended up becoming sick, likely from being around the people that she was trying to help. After her death, St. Elizabeth was canonized in just 4 years and Catholics from all over started to come to Marburg to visit her final resting place.
