Artist's Description

The Mingus Mill, located inside of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, is a gristmill that was built in 1886. The Mingus family moved to the area in the late 1700s. Historians believe that the Mingus Mill that stands today is actually the second mill built on the site due to the technology that was used to build it.

Designed and built by Sion Thomas Early, the Mingus Mill uses a water driven steel turbine to power the mill. People from all over the Oconaluftee Valley would bring their corn and wheat to be ground at the Mingus Mill. The Mingus Mill also had grindstones that were from France that provided a high quality grind that could not be found anywhere nearby.

About David Morefield

David Morefield

By David Morefield I started photography for a couple of reason, the main reason was for the pure enjoyment of creating something beautiful. In my past, I have seen some of the greatest horrors known to man, so finding other images to place into my head has been therapeutic. I call it "Image Replacement Therapy." Over time, I had some people ask about buying prints, so I started posting prints for sale and this is how Fluffyshotme Photography was born. I prefer to go out and capture whatever strikes me in the moment and if others like it, then great. My photography is more for me to appreciate, but if others can get enjoyment out of my work, then that brings me a sense of fulfillment. I am interested in travelling the world....
