Artist's Description
Grand Central Station is one of the most iconic stations in the United States. Opened in 1871, Grand Central Station was built on 42nd Street due to a law by the city of New York that banned steam engines south of 42nd Street; in those days, steam engines would burn coal blowing black soot over everything.
There were three major railroads at the time - the Hudson, New Haven and Harlem Railroads. They decided to cooperate and build Grand Central Station in order to best serve the City of New York.
As the station grew, so did the number of tracks coming into Grand Central Station. This made it very difficult for people on Manhattan island to traverse from East to West or vice versa. Eventually, they dug tunnels for the train tracks coming into the depot and this left a very large open area above, which is how Park Avenue came to be.
About David Morefield
By David Morefield I started photography for a couple of reason, the main reason was for the pure enjoyment of creating something beautiful. In my past, I have seen some of the greatest horrors known to man, so finding other images to place into my head has been therapeutic. I call it "Image Replacement Therapy." Over time, I had some people ask about buying prints, so I started posting prints for sale and this is how Fluffyshotme Photography was born. I prefer to go out and capture whatever strikes me in the moment and if others like it, then great. My photography is more for me to appreciate, but if others can get enjoyment out of my work, then that brings me a sense of fulfillment. I am interested in travelling the world....
